The microbiome in Breast cAnceR therapy and potential for pRobIOtics to improve treatment outcome
Great news! We and our collaborators for BARRIO have received funding from the PRIN 2022 grant applications.
BARRIO is a project involving close collaboration between University of Perugia (Università degli Studi di Perugia) and the Perugia Hospital (Azienda Ospedaliera di Perugia) that aims to aims to identify microbial signatures in breast cancer patients, track microbiome changes during treatment, and correlate findings with immune profiles. Using patient-derived organoids and mouse models, the study will also test whether probiotics and polyphenols can improve RT outcomes, potentially leading to microbiome-targeted strategies for enhancing breast cancer therapy.
